Introduction

LEGO City represents a world built around exploration, creativity, and everyday adventures. Translating this concept into a physical exhibition required more than simply reproducing LEGO characters.

The project aimed to create a memorable visual landmark within the outdoor plaza of MixC Xiaoshan, attracting visitors through oversized installations and detailed themed environments.

A 5-meter-tall LEGO adventurer minifigure became the central visual highlight of the exhibition, creating an immediate connection with visitors through its iconic proportions and recognizable LEGO design language.

Alongside the giant character sculpture, four large-scale LEGO city scenes were recreated at a 1:13 scale ratio, transforming familiar urban environments into immersive miniature worlds.

The exhibition included multiple themed settings featuring LEGO characters, vehicles, plants, and city elements, allowing visitors to explore different scenarios while experiencing the playful atmosphere of LEGO City.

Experiential Design: Transforming Commercial Spaces into Interactive Brand Experiences

Modern experiential design focuses on creating emotional connections between audiences and brands.

The LEGO City Adventure exhibition transformed an ordinary commercial space into an interactive storytelling environment where visitors could walk through themed scenes, discover details, and capture memorable moments.

The oversized LEGO adventurer sculpture served as a powerful visual anchor, immediately attracting attention and becoming a popular photo opportunity.

The surrounding city scenes extended this experience by creating multiple exploration points. Each installation introduced different narratives, allowing visitors to discover new details from different perspectives.

Rather than functioning as static decorations, the installations encouraged interaction, photography, and social sharing. The exhibition experience continued beyond the physical location as visitors shared their moments online.

By combining IP storytelling, large-scale sculpture, and spatial experience design, the project created a stronger emotional connection between LEGO and its audience.

Manufacturing Process and Materials: Combining Craftsmanship with Advanced Fabrication

Large-scale IP installations require both creative craftsmanship and reliable engineering.

For the LEGO City Adventure project, DEFARA applied professional sculpture fabrication techniques, including structural framework development, surface modeling, finishing, and detailed painting.

The manufacturing process included:

  • 3D modeling and production planning

  • Structural framework fabrication

  • Large-scale sculpture shaping

  • Surface refinement and detailing

  • Color matching and professional painting

  • Final assembly and onsite installation

Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) was utilized as an important fabrication material due to its advantages in strength, lightweight performance, and adaptability for complex forms.

Through careful surface treatment and painting techniques, DEFARA recreated LEGO’s bright colors, smooth surfaces, and iconic visual characteristics.

The combination of advanced fabrication technology and handcrafted finishing allowed the installations to achieve both durability and visual authenticity.

Project Outcome: Creating a Landmark LEGO Experience in Hangzhou

The completed LEGO City Adventure exhibition successfully transformed the outdoor plaza of MixC Xiaoshan into a vibrant creative playground.

The 5-meter LEGO adventurer sculpture became an iconic attraction, drawing visitors and creating a strong visual identity for the exhibition.

The four recreated LEGO city scenes provided additional exploration experiences, allowing audiences to engage with different environments and discover details throughout the space.

Through large-scale installations, the project successfully connected LEGO’s imaginative world with a real commercial environment, creating memorable visitor experiences and increasing audience engagement.

The exhibition demonstrated how large-scale IP fabrication can enhance brand communication by turning familiar characters and stories into physical experiences.

Industry Significance: The Growing Value of IP-Based Experiential Spaces

As commercial spaces continue evolving, immersive IP installations are becoming increasingly important tools for attracting visitors and creating emotional connections.

Large-scale sculptures and themed environments allow brands to create temporary destinations that encourage participation, interaction, and social sharing.

For IP brands, these experiences provide opportunities to strengthen brand recognition while building deeper relationships with audiences.

The LEGO City Adventure project reflects the growing trend of combining entertainment, retail environments, and experiential design. By transforming creative concepts into physical spaces, brands can create meaningful experiences that extend beyond traditional advertising.

Professional fabrication plays a critical role in this process, ensuring that creative visions can be realized safely, accurately, and at an impressive scale.

Conclusion

The LEGO City Adventure Theme Exhibition demonstrates how large-scale fabrication can transform iconic IP into immersive real-world experiences.

From the giant LEGO adventurer sculpture to the detailed city scenes, every element was designed to bring creativity, exploration, and interaction into the physical environment.

Through professional sculpture production, material expertise, and installation capabilities, DEFARA helped transform LEGO’s imaginative world into a memorable public experience in Hangzhou.

As brands continue seeking new ways to engage audiences, DEFARA remains committed to delivering innovative IP exhibition solutions, large-scale sculpture fabrication, and experiential environments that turn creative ideas into unforgettable experiences.
